Discover Prague

Once an often overlooked city to visit, Prague is now Europe's worst-kept secret - and for good reason. With low prices, excellent accommodation, hundreds of shops and a plethora of things to see and do, the Czech Republic's capital offers one of the best city breaks on the continent all year round.

Steeped in history

Home to world-defining dynasties including two Holy Roman Emperors, the Habsburg Monarchy and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Prague is now rich in culture and history, though the architecture is its greatest asset. A walk across the famous Charles Bridge will put this into perspective, taking travellers into the heart of the Old Town over 16 arches, under three bridge towers and past the 30 statues that run along the river crossing.

The entire Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and hosts cafés, independent stores, restaurants and boutiques - the perfect place to go shopping. It's also home to unmissable dramatic buildings, such as the gothic Týn Church, baroque St Nicholas Church, and the only working Astronomical Clock in the world.

It's Prague Castle that's the most dominating presence in the city - it's the biggest castle in the world, and overlooks the Old Town from the top of a hill. It hosts the Czech Crown Jewels, as well as huge quantities of fine paintings and sculpture for art lovers. At the other side of the Old Town is Wenceslas Square; larger than Times Square, this stunning boulevard hosts the Czech National Museum, among many others.

A winter wonderland

Open yearly from November to January, Prague is filled with festive cheer. The Old Town and Wenceslas Square are the main places where the festivities take place, and market stalls sit amongst the lit up cathedral and cobbled streets. Local handicrafts and ornaments decorate the authentic wooden huts, and the local cuisine is divine.
