Tenerife is known for being one of the most famous holiday destinations in the Canary Islands, and it's easy to see why this little Atlantic community attracts so many year after year. The island seems to find the perfect balance between culture, party and relaxation, with a vibrant carnival scene, natural beaches and ancient streets to discover.
Head to the city of La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and experience the historic streets for yourself. Here you can find the picturesque cathedral, as well as climb to the top of the Iglesia de la Concepción to get a fantastic view of the surrounding city.
Food on the island is another thing you'll love to devour. Classic Mediterranean cooking features a range of seafood, fresh fish, meat and, of course, tapas.
For something a little different, why not try a whale-watching trip? A lesser-known fact, Tenerife is one of the best spots in the world for finding dolphins and whales, as well as rays and sharks, too.
Island hopping will leave you starry-eyed when you head to nearby island La Palma. The Starlight Reserve makes this an ideal spot for start gazing and astronomy. Back on land, the nature is just as impressive; 1,000 km of paths take you through incredible landscapes of forest, beaches and volcanoes.
