- What is the Pet Travel Scheme?
- Are dogs allowed in the terminal?
If you’d like to take your dog, cat or small pet overseas with you from Leeds Bradford Airport, we do accept airline approved travel as per the conditions of the Pet Travel Scheme.
Please note many European airlines do not offer the carriage of animals in the hold or cabin and specialist cargo providers may have to be used instead. We would recommend checking details with airlines before making any pet travel arrangements.
What is the Pet Travel Scheme?
To allow cats and dogs to travel between UK airports and some countries without the need for quarantine, the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) offer the Pet Travel Scheme.
The scheme provides details of the conditions of travel such as a Pet Passport and the pet being microchipped, as well as the countries the UK accepts Pet Passports from.
Are dogs allowed in the terminal?
Dogs are not allowed airside (beyond security) in the terminal buildings unless assistance dogs or are transiting onto an aircraft.
Well behaved dogs are permitted on a lead in the arrivals area of the terminal as long as they do not enter the café servery or seating area.
Many airlines permit assistance dogs access to the flight cabin and we would recommend speaking to the airline’s assistance team before flying. Airline assistance contact numbers can be found on our Special Assistance page.
