Leading civil engineering and building contractor, Farrans Construction, has scored full marks in a recent Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) audit of its Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) site.

LBA is investing £100m into a vital regeneration of its terminal facilities, known as LBA: REGEN, to dramatically improve and enhance passenger experience. Farrans Construction has been appointed as the contractor to deliver Phase 1 of the project, the construction of the terminal extension.

LBA: REGEN will see a 9,500 sq. mt., three-storey extension to the existing terminal, alongside a significant refurbishment of the current terminal building. Passengers will benefit from more seating, faster security, new shops and eateries, as well as the creation of additional aircraft stands and a larger baggage reclaim area and immigration hall. There will also be improved access for passengers with restricted mobility.

Vincent Hodder, CEO of Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “LBA: REGEN gives us the infrastructure needed to deliver an outstanding customer experience, support the growth of our airline partners, enhance connectivity for business, investment and trade and provide the airport that Leeds, Bradford and Yorkshire have been waiting for.

“It’s fantastic to see our working collaboration with Farrans Construction being recognised as an example of industry best practice.”

Cathal Montague, Regional Director at Farrans Construction, said:  “This was the second visit from CCS and our site team delivered a presentation on our compliance with the scheme. The report that we received confirmed that all check list items for 2024 had been achieved and that our social value and stakeholder engagement activity to promote the construction industry was excellent. A high focus has been given to EDI/FIR awareness and Mental Health with workshops delivered for both.

“Our site team was recognised for their focus on enhancing the natural environment to an excellent standard as well as delivering our carbon reduction strategy on site. Carbon targets are shared with the team alongside awareness around climate change and the journey to Net Zero. Numerous company initiatives are in place on our site to optimise the use of energy and resources such as a company-wide Recycle Week, campaigns to go plastic free and work with local partnerships to donate laptops.”
